Sure enough, come the Full Story trailer, the most glaring example of Uncanny Valley (Chun-Li's face) was fixed. After the widely negative response to the E3 2017 trailer over the uneven quality of the character models (Chun-Li's in particular had been universally criticized, especially in regards to her unnatural-looking face), Yoshinori Ono promised that the graphics would be tweaked before the release of the game.

This promise technically came true because (as of the game's launch) Nova had not yet appeared in any MCU-associated productions (though the Nova Corps itself had) furthermore, Dormammu and Thor don't have their MCU designs. Not only did this mean the story mode of Infinite wouldn't fall into the same trap of copying the movies that Avengers Assemble did, but in terms of the roster, it also meant that non-MCU characters were more likely, possibly including characters affected by the then-rumored Fox ban.

This IGN interview with Bill Rosemann of Marvel Games, noted that Marvel licensed games, Infinite included, would not be required to tie in to the comics or the Marvel Cinematic Universe and would have the freedom to create their own storyline.Capcom 3 was criticized for failing to deliver on its promise of a "robust," fully-fledged story despite being released at a time where multiple fighters preceding it or put out around the same period had moved beyond Excuse Plots, Infinite's development team stressed that the game would have an extensive and immersive cinematic Story Mode.
